Time and space are altered. Time has slowed down. Details are emerging that I didn't notice at first. The space has narrowed. My world is just a part of this island in Indonesia. It is the surrounding reefs. At first I could only observe differences. I had my safety sensors out to make sure that I was ok in this new world. If the coffee has a layer of mud at the bottom, do I like it? If I am surrounded by all excellent photographers, am I still a photographer? There are so many factors in taking a photo underwater. Many of them require you to be a confident scuba diver. I need to be able to just float in one place. Neutral buoyancy is not as easy as it seems. I have had to work on it as I raise my camera into position, and make sure I am in no way damaging the reef. It has also meant that the dive is more focused. I am not getting the overall view. I'm getting specific views. I'm looking for good shots. I still haven't come to terms with this yet. I do know that when I get a photo of say the turtle, I am very happy! When I surface and all my shots are blurry, its not as rewarding. Learning curve.
The resort is a bit more in the vacation category than the travel category. They offer massage all over Indonesia for incredibly low prices. We both had 2 hour massages that started with washing our feet. I signed up for a yoga class. It was delightful. It also started with washing my feet. It was for two hours and I loved it. I wish to do more when I get home.
We have decided to dive the "house reef" today in the morning and in the afternoon. It appears to have a more peaceful pace, and will allow us to stay in one place for a long time trying to master a good photo subject. I mastered the technique of shoot and run, which I later learned upon review is only touches the subject you want. The clown fish eventually come out and play, after they get used to you. Or a certain coral head looks better framed in a different way, or with the lights in different positions.
Tonight Steve and I are being treated to a romantic dinner on the beach, compliments of Matt and Maggie. I am looking forward to it very much because of the privacy it offers to just enjoy each others company. Perfect timing.
We've discovered the bar at the end of the pier. Right at sunset time, its nice to relax there with a gin and tonic with a naked lady stir.
I can feel your energy and it feels fabulous! Love your photos~ Enjoy all you can.. xoxoxo
