Having trouble getting photos uploaded, I am giving these to you a day late as well. These are of the village Lamanggau that we visited. The visit was so short that I feel that my impression was only a snap shot. I'm really glad I got to see it. The children all seemed so happy and care free. But, nothing is ever what it seems at first glance. There was much trash that floats in and out during high and low tide. The day we visited , it was an exceptionally high tide. We waded through the street of the lower part of town. As we walked through, the elevation inclined and it became dry. There was a school at the far end. They are Muslims and we passed a mosque with a beautiful silver dome. They asked us to dress covering our knees and shoulders out of respect. This is where Vinessa, the yoga teacher, taught English. It must have been an incredible experience.
We saw much trash in the ocean. Plastic is a big issue. It was here and there as we dove. When the tide was high, it would wash up on the beaches. There are 17,000 islands in Indonesia. I don't pretend to understand the logistics, but trash is a problem, both coming from the ocean and being dumped into the ocean.
I am very excited to see yet another country. Thailand's people are majority Buddhists. In preparation I just read Deepak Chopra's book,"Buddha." The next five days will be in Bangkok. It is fascinating to see how others live their lives.
